Celebrating the life of Charita Marie Lee.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, Charita Marie Lee, a beloved mother and grandmother and a longtime law-enforcement officer who served the Richmond and Henrico County communities for many years, died on October 22, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Charita Lee grew up in Richmond and attended John Marshall High School before graduating from Huguenot High School, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team and the pep squad; and
WHEREAS, in her youth, Charita Lee was known for sewing her own stylish clothes, including one of her prom dresses, and she worked as a model in her teenage years and early 20s; and
WHEREAS, Charita Lee worked at the Richmond Coliseum and F&M Bank, then answered her calling to serve the community as a law-enforcement officer, working for the Richmond Sheriff's Office for two years, followed by the Henrico County Sheriff's Office for 23 years; and
WHEREAS, as a deputy sheriff, Charita Lee was dedicated to treating inmates with dignity and humanity, and she imparted her commitment to fairness in the justice system to her daughter, the Honorable Stacy E. Lee, who currently serves as chief judge of the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court; and
WHEREAS, outside of her career, Charita Lee loved fishing and tending to her flower garden, and she was an active volunteer who took every opportunity to enhance the lives of children, older adults, or anyone in need; and
WHEREAS, Charita Lee will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter, Stacy, and her family and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charita Marie Lee; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charita Marie Lee as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for her memory.
