Celebrating the life of Norman Lee Davis.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, Norman Lee Davis, an honorable veteran, accomplished electrician, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and beloved member of the Ladysmith community, died on January 29, 2026; and
WHEREAS, affectionately known by family and friends as “Duke,” Norman Davis enlisted in the United States Air Force with his mother's consent and served his country with honor and distinction while cultivating a lifelong interest in aviation; and
WHEREAS, Norman Davis dedicated 30 years to the National Institutes of Health as an electrician before retiring from the agency in 1991; and
WHEREAS, with exceptional work ethic and drive, Norman Davis served as a limousine chauffer until his 80th birthday, taking great pride in assisting distinguished clients such as BET and Stewart Funeral Home; and
WHEREAS, Norman Davis loved spending time on the water and was a proud boat owner for more than 60 years, captaining nine different vessels over that time; and
WHEREAS, Norman Davis cofounded the Metro Sailors Yacht Club in Washington, D.C., in 1972 and served as a mentor to aspiring Black boaters, helping many learn how to successfully operate a vessel and navigate the waters; and
WHEREAS, Norman Davis will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Irene; his children, Allen, Kelly, Juan, and Norman, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Norman Lee Davis, a treasured member of the Ladysmith community who brought joy to countless lives; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Norman Lee Davis as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
