WHEREAS, in 1966, a visionary group of community leaders established Friendship Retirement Community with the mission of providing compassionate care, dignity, and support to older adults in Southwest Virginia; and

WHEREAS, for six decades, Friendship Retirement Community has remained steadfast in its commitment to serving seniors through a nonprofit model rooted in service, innovation, and respect for the generations who built our communities; and

WHEREAS, Friendship Retirement Community has grown to become one of the largest employers in the region, with more than 1,100 dedicated team members serving approximately 1,500 residents across multiple campuses in the Roanoke and Salem region; and

WHEREAS, Friendship Retirement Community provides a comprehensive range of services designed to support aging with dignity, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation services, home health, physician services, and wellness programs; and

WHEREAS, Friendship Retirement Community's mission extends beyond housing and health care to fostering vibrant community life through social engagement, lifelong learning, intergenerational programming, wellness initiatives, and meaningful resident experiences; and

WHEREAS, as a nonprofit organization, Friendship Retirement Community remains deeply committed to ensuring residents who have outlived their financial resources continue to receive compassionate care, reflecting the organization's enduring promise that no resident will ever be asked to leave due to financial hardship; and

WHEREAS, throughout its 60-year history, Friendship Retirement Community has strengthened the fabric of Southwest Virginia through partnerships with local health care providers, educational institutions, community organizations, and volunteers who share a commitment to improving the lives of older adults; and

WHEREAS, Friendship Retirement Community's legacy is reflected not only in its campuses and programs but in the thousands of residents, families, and team members whose lives have been enriched through care, connection, and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Friendship Retirement Community hereby be commended on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Friendship Retirement Community as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its contributions to Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth.
