WHEREAS, South Lakes High School in Reston was awarded the Purple Star Designation for the 2025–2026 school year for its outstanding support of military students and families; and
WHEREAS, Purple Star Schools are recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children for their dedication to helping military-connected students and their families; and
WHEREAS, South Lakes High School's student ambassadors played a key role in earning the designation by helping new military-connected students feel welcome and supported; their efforts ensure that every student feels they belong and can thrive both socially and academically; and
WHEREAS, the combined efforts of administrators, teachers, students, and the entire South Lakes High School community have created a welcoming learning environment that is conducive to student success; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That South Lakes High School hereby be commended on receiving the Purple Star Designation for the 2025–2026 school year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carlos Seward, principal of South Lakes High School, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the school's achievement.
