Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, the Spotsylvania Memorial Park was established on the grounds of the Spotsylvania County Public Schools administration building in 2025 as a place for families and community members to remember and honor school-age children from Spotsylvania County who have passed away; and
WHEREAS, the Spotsylvania Memorial Park was envisioned by Jaimie Ashton, a parent and child advocate, who worked in collaboration with the Spotsylvania County School Board, school division leadership, and community members to bring the project to fruition; and
WHEREAS, the Spotsylvania Memorial Park includes benches engraved with the names of children who have passed away and provides a peaceful space where families and community members may gather, reflect, and remember their loved ones; and
WHEREAS, the project brought together families, educators, local leaders, and community organizations in support of those who have experienced the profound loss of a child; and
WHEREAS, the Spotsylvania Memorial Park reflects the commitment of the Spotsylvania community to compassion, remembrance, and support for families who are grieving; and
WHEREAS, by providing a place for remembrance and reflection, the Spotsylvania Memorial Park serves as a lasting tribute to the lives of children lost too soon and a symbol of unity and care within the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Spotsylvania Memorial Park hereby be commended for providing a place of remembrance, reflection, and support for families and members of the Spotsylvania County community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Spotsylvania County School Board as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for its efforts to establish the Spotsylvania Memorial Park and support families in the community.
