WHEREAS, Dennis L. Dunlap, born on March 24, 1921, in northwest Missouri, has exemplified the values of courage, dedication, and service throughout a life spanning more than a century; and
WHEREAS, answering the call of duty during World War II, Dennis Dunlap was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps in March 1943 and served as a corporal and skilled airplane mechanic with the 12th Air Force in the European Theater, repairing P-47 Thunderbolts and ensuring the readiness of aircraft supporting critical combat missions in Italy and Corsica; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Dunlap's service occurred prior to the formal establishment of the United States Air Force as a separate branch, placing him among the pioneering members of American military aviation maintenance whose work safeguarded freedom and contributed to the Allied victory; and
WHEREAS, following his distinguished military service, Dennis Dunlap applied his expertise as a master mechanic and engineer, building automobiles for General Motors, including Pontiacs, Buicks, and Oldsmobiles, and later served as chief engineer at the Darby Corporation, where he designed and built trains and haul cars, leaving a lasting mark on American industry; and
WHEREAS, beyond his professional achievements, Dennis Dunlap's character, faith, and dedication to community have inspired all who know him, reflecting the highest ideals of citizenship and personal integrity; and
WHEREAS, at 105 years of age, Dennis Dunlap continues to demonstrate vitality, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others, serving as a living testament to the resilience and spirit of the Greatest Generation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Dennis L. Dunlap, whose life has been defined by service, perseverance, and inspirational leadership, hereby be commended on the occasion of his 105th birthday; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dennis L. Dunlap as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his exemplary military service, professional contributions, and enduring devotion to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation.
