WHEREAS, Roger Smith has served with distinction as the head coach of the girls' basketball program at Manor High School, dedicating more than two decades to the development of student-athletes in the City of Portsmouth; and
WHEREAS, through his leadership, discipline, and commitment to excellence, Roger Smith has guided the Manor High School girls' basketball team to sustained success, earning the respect of players, parents, colleagues, and the greater Hampton Roads community; and
WHEREAS, during his remarkable coaching career, Roger Smith has amassed more than 450 victories, a testament to his skill as a coach, his dedication to preparation, and the hard work of the many young women who have competed under his guidance; and
WHEREAS, beyond the impressive number of wins, Roger Smith has instilled in his players the values of teamwork, perseverance, leadership, and academic achievement, preparing them for success not only on the basketball court but also in their future careers and communities; and
WHEREAS, many student-athletes who have played for Roger Smith have gone on to pursue higher education and continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, carrying forward the lessons of discipline and determination learned under his mentorship; and
WHEREAS, Roger Smith's dedication to youth development and community leadership has strengthened the proud athletic tradition of Manor High School and brought honor to the City of Portsmouth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Roger Smith hereby be commended for his outstanding career, including more than 450 victories as head coach of the Manor High School girls' basketball team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Roger Smith as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his dedication to supporting the student-athletes in his care and for his lasting contributions to the Portsmouth community.
