Celebrating the life of Jasper McMickle, Sr.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, Jasper McMickle, Sr., a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, esteemed faith leader, accomplished disc jockey, and beloved member of the Hampton Roads community, died on October 31, 2014; and
WHEREAS, a native of Dinwiddie County, Jasper “Mac” McMickle, Sr., dedicated 31 years to Huntington Ingalls Industries at the Newport News shipyard and later served for a decade with Chatman E.A. Hughes Funeral Home in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, with a great passion for gospel music, Mac McMickle worked as a disc jockey and radio announcer on a number of local radio stations over the years, delivering the best of gospel music to the airwaves to the delight of fans across Hampton Roads and as far as North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Mac McMickle was a longtime member of St. James Holiness Church of Christ Disciples in Norfolk, where he faithfully served on the youth choir and usher board and as a deacon, minister, and elder; and
WHEREAS, Mac McMickle later joined Temple of Jesus Christ in Washington, North Carolina, serving on the minister's staff for many years, and he was also the lead singer of the Gospel Angels of Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, Mac McMickle is fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Jasper Cuffee, James, Carrie, Terell, and Jasper, Jr., and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jasper McMickle, Sr., a treasured member of the Hampton Roads community whose legacy of faith, hope, and strength continues to inspire all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jasper McMickle, Sr., as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
