Commending Master Chief Petty Officer Linda Fox, USN, Ret.

WHEREAS, Master Chief Petty Officer Linda Fox, USN, Ret., has inspired the Hampton Roads community for many years through her service, dedication, and strength; and

WHEREAS, Linda Fox served the country with honor and distinction from 1974 to 1995 as a member of the United States Navy, overcoming the challenges of being a women in a male-dominated space to achieve the prestigious rank of master chief petty officer; and

WHEREAS, following her service, Linda Fox dedicated herself to training future sailors and officers and other young people as a naval science instructor with the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at Matthew Fontaine Maury High School in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, following a diagnosis of cancer, Linda Fox set out in 2006 to run more than 1,000 races; she has since surpassed that feat, while also beating cancer three times; and

WHEREAS, in recent years, Linda Fox has given generously of her time to support the growth and well-being of young people as a substitute teacher with Virginia Beach City Public Schools and in other capacities; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her commitment to serving others, Fox News 3 presented Linda Fox with its People Taking Action award in 2016; and

WHEREAS, as a source of love, hope, and joy in the Hampton Roads community, Linda Fox has made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Master Chief Petty Officer Linda Fox, USN, Ret., hereby be commended for her service, dedication, and strength; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Master Chief Petty Officer Linda Fox, USN, Ret., as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to Virginia Beach and the Commonwealth.
