Commending Leila Gordon.
WHEREAS, Leila Gordon, who has greatly served the Reston community for more than 40 years, retired from her position as executive director of the Reston Community Center in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Leila Gordon joined the staff of the Reston Community Center (RCC) in 1983 as a part-time employee overseeing the development of the center's arts education offerings and she began to direct the agency's performing arts portfolio a year later; she then began managing RCC's community events in 2005 and was later appointed its executive director in 2008; and
WHEREAS, leveraging her knowledge, Leila Gordon became a strong advocate for the work of ArtsFairfax and its constituent arts organizations, and she joined the organization's board of directors in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Leila Gordon was named chair of the Fairfax County Master Arts Plan Task Force in 2011, which produced the Fairfax County Master Arts Plan for Facilities that was accepted by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Leila Gordon received numerous accolades for her service, including the A. Heath Onthank Award for Merit from Fairfax County and the Katherine Hanley Public Service Award from Leadership Fairfax; also, in 2024, the Reston Community Center Board of Governors renamed its CenterStage theatre in her honor; and
WHEREAS, by promoting access to the arts and other enriching experiences for the benefit of the community, Leila Gordon has helped to make Reston a wonderful place to live, work, and raise a family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Leila Gordon hereby be commended for her more than 40 years of service with the Reston Community Center on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Leila Gordon as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to Reston and the Commonwealth.
