Commending Carlos Seward.
WHEREAS, Carlos Seward, principal of South Lakes High School in Reston, was named a Principal of Distinction by the Virginia Department of Education in recognition of his outstanding leadership in student achievement, instructional practices, and school culture; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Seward is an experienced instructional leader, collaborator, and relationship builder with over 20 years of experience working in urban, suburban, and rural schools; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Seward earned a bachelor's degree in history from Norfolk State University and a master's degree in educational leadership from Hampton University, and he continues to work toward his doctorate in education from Regent University; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, Carlos Seward began his career in education as a social studies teacher at Renaissance Academy in Virginia Beach; over the next decade, he taught at George H. Moody Middle School in Henrico, I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, and Jefferson-Houston PreK-8 IB School in Alexandria, where he took on multiple leadership roles, establishing partnerships with local colleges and universities and community organizations and providing ongoing professional development and support to other teachers; and
WHEREAS, in 2016, Carlos Seward was named dean of students at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria, and in this role he co-led the development of the school's discipline policies and practices and oversaw the character education and life skills initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Seward was named an assistant principal at Culpeper High School in 2016, where he honed his skills in data analysis, program evaluation, and student intervention and led professional development on classroom management, differentiated instruction, and cultural competence; and
WHEREAS, in 2021, Carlos Seward was named principal of Rappahannock County High School, during which time he also served as Director of Career and Technical Education for the school division; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Seward has served as principal of South Lakes High School since 2024, where he shares his enthusiasm and passion for student success daily with the school community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby commend Carlos Seward for his recognition as a Principal of Distinction by the Virginia Department of Education; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Carlos Seward as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect and admiration for his achievements.
