Commending Beverly Cosham.

WHEREAS, Beverly Cosham, a nationally acclaimed cabaret singer who has performed at prestigious venues throughout Washington, D.C., and around the country, has greatly served the Reston community for many years; and

WHEREAS, known for her celebrated one-woman cabaret shows, Beverly Cosham has graced the stages of various venues in the Washington, D.C., area, including the Blues Alley Club, the Folger Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre Company, Lisner Auditorium, The Lyceum, the Arts Club of Washington, the Atlas Performing Arts Center, and the World Bank; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Cosham has provided her musical talents to local ensembles as a guest artist with the City of Fairfax Band, the McLean Symphony, and the United States Navy Band's Commodores jazz ensemble and has recorded several albums for the enjoyment of her fans; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Cosham has nurtured aspiring musicians and artists by developing classes for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at George Mason University and has created a master class entitled, “Acting Up a Song,” in which she teaches children the art of improvisation by using acting techniques to interpret song lyrics; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Cosham has worked tirelessly to foster the arts and culture of Reston as president of the Reston Community Orchestra, chair of the Reston Community Center's Board of Governors, and a founding member of the Reston Chorale, Reston Community Players, Lorton Arts Foundation, and the Fairfax County Grant Advisory Panel; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her service to the community, Beverly Cosham received a Best of Reston award from the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce and what was formerly Reston Interfaith, Inc., and, in recognition of her contributions to the arts, she was nominated for a coveted Helen Hayes Award and two Washington Music Awards; and

WHEREAS, Beverly Cosham's accomplishments are a testament to her hard work, talents, and dedication, as well as a reflection of the creative spirit that enlivens the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Beverly Cosham hereby be commended for her achievements and legacy of service as an artist and community leader; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Beverly Cosham as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for her contributions to Reston and the Commonwealth and best wishes for her continued success.
