WHEREAS, for 155 years, Campbell's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church has supported the Carrollton community by providing spiritual leadership, opportunities for joyful worship, and generous outreach programs and ministries; and
WHEREAS, Campbell's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church was founded on February 8, 1870, by a group of newly freed men and women and has stood as a pillar of faith, resilience, and fellowship since that time; and
WHEREAS, from the congregation's earliest days worshipping under a bush harbor, Campbell's Chapel AME Church has grown through the dedication of its pastors, trustees, and members, expanding its facilities and ministries to meet the evolving needs of the community; and
WHEREAS, throughout its history, Campbell's Chapel AME Church has been a beacon of hope and service, providing spiritual guidance, educational opportunities, and outreach programs such as Sunday school, youth initiatives, women's and men's ministries, and health and wellness efforts; and
WHEREAS, Campbell's Chapel AME Church has continually adapted, embracing technological advancements and launching new ministries, such as the Food Pantry, Village Leaders, and the Delores P. Wooten Women's Roundtable Ministry, to continue fostering a spirit of restoration and healing; and
WHEREAS, in 2024, Campbell's Chapel AME Church became the second in the Virginia Conference to install a digital marquee, a symbol of its commitment to progress and communication with both its congregation and the wider community; the marquee was dedicated in November 2024 by the late Bishop Reginald T. Jackson, marking a new era of visibility and outreach; and
WHEREAS, Campbell's Chapel AME Church has also played a vital role in community engagement, partnering with local organizations to provide food, support, and educational resources to families in need; under the leadership of the Reverend Matthew Shannon, the church continues to thrive, embracing digital technology, expanding its outreach, and nurturing a welcoming environment for all; and
WHEREAS, the 155th anniversary of Campbell's Chapel AME Church is a testament to the enduring strength, unity, and grace of the church family, whose journey has been marked by perseverance, compassion, and a steadfast dedication to God and community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Campbell's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church hereby be commended on the occasion of its 155th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Campbell's Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the church's long history and legacy of contributions to the residents of Carrollton.
