Celebrating the life of Jonathan Lane White.
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 3, 2026
WHEREAS, Jonathan Lane White, a devoted husband, father, and son, revered coach and educator, and beloved member of the Virginia Beach community, whose dedication to leading and mentoring young people made a profound and lasting impact on countless lives, died on November 16, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Jonathan “Jon” Lane White graduated from Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, where he was an All-District linebacker on the football team, before earning a bachelor's degree at Hampton University; and
WHEREAS, Jon White's passion for football and for fostering the growth and development of young athletes led him to a career as a coach and educator, and he ultimately returned to his alma mater, Bayside High School, serving as head coach of the football team for 13 seasons; and
WHEREAS, as a coach, Jon White emphasized character, discipline, and personal growth above wins and athletic achievements, helping his players find success both on and off the gridiron and mature into future leaders of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Jon White consistently demonstrated extraordinary care and concern for the well-being of his athletes and was regarded as a role model and mentor by many; and
WHEREAS, Jon White had the distinct privilege of coaching his sons, Aric and Tory, who carry on his legacy in the Hampton Roads football community; and
WHEREAS, Jon White was a proud member of the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and he embodied the fraternity's values of scholarship, fellowship, and service in all of his endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Jon White will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Shameia; his sons, Aric and Tory; his parents, Kaye and Jimmie; his sisters, Jennifer and Jenelle; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Jonathan Lane White, a treasured member of the Virginia Beach community whose leadership, integrity, and commitment to uplifting others will inspire all who knew him for many years to come; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jonathan Lane White as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
