WHEREAS, Halifax Pharmacy, a distinguished business in South Boston that had admirably served its patients and customers for the past 130 years, closed its doors for the last time on September 30, 2025; and
WHEREAS, with a history dating back to the 19th century, Halifax Pharmacy was a community institution in South Boston, with many customers who had been loyal patrons for decades; and
WHEREAS, Halifax Pharmacy was purchased in 2020 by Stephen Anderson, PharmD, who had worked at the pharmacy for nearly a decade after receiving his doctor of pharmacy degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy in 2010; and
WHEREAS, Halifax Pharmacy served more than 10,000 patients each year, representing more than a quarter of the population of Halifax County, underscoring the tremendous impact the business had on the health and well-being of the community; and
WHEREAS, at the time of its closure, Halifax Pharmacy was notably the last independent pharmacy in Halifax County, a testament to the hard work and determination of its owner and staff; and
WHEREAS, the memory of Halifax Pharmacy and its legacy of service will be cherished in the South Boston and Halifax County communities for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Halifax Pharmacy hereby be commended for its dedication and service as the business closes permanently after more than 130 years; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Stephen Anderson, owner of Halifax Pharmacy, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the business's contributions to South Boston, Halifax County, and the Commonwealth.
