WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas, Sr., a captain with the Petersburg Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services, was selected as the Firefighter of the Year in 2024; and
WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas has deep roots in Petersburg, and his longtime service to the Petersburg Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services demonstrates his unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the community; and
WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas currently serves as captain of Engine Two, B Shift, stationed on South Market Street, where he is a dependable leader and a unifying force among his fellow firefighters; and
WHEREAS, as a trainer for new recruits, Jerren Lucas has helped younger firefighters hone their skills, develop confidence, and achieve their fullest potential; and
WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas has increased community engagement through his storytelling series “Views from the Jumpseat,” providing viewers with an inside look at the service and sacrifices of Petersburg's firefighters; and
WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas also mentors young people at school events and community gatherings, and he has generously supported outreach programs to distribute coats, shoes, and other necessities; and
WHEREAS, Jerren Lucas has gone above and beyond to demonstrate that public safety officers should not only serve residents in the event of an emergency, but also strive to play an important role in building a sense of community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Jerren Lucas, Sr., Petersburg's 2024 Firefighter of the Year, for his outstanding achievements as a public safety officer and community leader; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jerren Lucas, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his legacy of contributions to the residents of Petersburg.
