WHEREAS, for 90 years, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church in Waverly has provided its congregation with inspirational spiritual guidance, joyous occasions for worship and fellowship, and meaningful opportunities for community outreach; and
WHEREAS, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church was founded in 1935 by Elder E.L. Collins, who held the church's services in an old poolroom building for six years until the congregation's growth demanded the construction of a new building in the early 1940s; and
WHEREAS, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church continued to grow and thrive, moving into its present building in 1973 and then into an enlarged sanctuary twenty years later; and
WHEREAS, since its founding, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church has been led by a distinguished line of devoted pastors and faith leaders, including Bishop Tyrone Harper, Sr., who has headed the church for the past 25 years; and
WHEREAS, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church hosts and participates in a range of charitable outreach programs at local schools and events to support youth and families in need; and
WHEREAS, since 2010, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church has held an annual community giveaway, which has blossomed over the years through a number of partnerships with area churches, organizations, and public agencies; and
WHEREAS, through the leadership of Bishop Harper and Lady Elder Starria Harper and the unwavering dedication of its members, the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church has made a profound and lasting impact on the Tri-Cities region; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church on the occasion of its 90th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Rose of Sharon Apostolic Church as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the church's contributions to Waverly and the Commonwealth.
