WHEREAS, in 2025, Barney Reiley retired from the Rappahannock Area YMCA after more than four decades of service and 32 years of transformational leadership as chief executive officer; and
WHEREAS, Barney Reiley began his YMCA career in the 1980s as a program and youth camp director; and
WHEREAS, Barney Reiley became chief executive officer of the Rappahannock Area YMCA in 1993 and guided a period of significant growth, expanding the organization into a multi-branch YMCA that serves tens of thousands of members; and
WHEREAS, Barney Reiley oversaw major facilities projects, including the construction of gyms, wellness centers, and a pool, and the opening of new branches in Spotsylvania County, King George County, and Caroline County; and
WHEREAS, Barney Reiley personally led fundraising efforts to support new amenities and opportunities for YMCA members, and he inspired his colleagues through his passion, vision, work ethic, and dedication to service; and
WHEREAS, among his proudest achievements, Barney Reiley focused on providing financial assistance for the less fortunate and programs for special needs children and adults to make the Rappahannock Area YMCA more inclusive and accessible for all members of the community; and
WHEREAS, Barney Reiley was a trusted mentor to numerous YMCA employees, and he inspired his daughters to follow in his footsteps by holding leadership roles in the organization; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Barney Reiley on the occasion of his retirement as chief executive officer of the Rappahannock Area YMCA; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Barney Reiley as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his life-changing contributions to generations of community members in the Rappahannock region.
