WHEREAS, K9 Ally, a seven-year-old bloodhound dog with the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, who inspired her fellow law-enforcement officers and members of the community through her gentle spirit, loyalty, and skills as a tracker, died on December 14, 2025; and
WHEREAS, adopted from Wychway Bloodhounds in Buffalo, New York, K9 Ally was assigned to Lieutenant Patrick Sheridan as a puppy and was named for his friend and mentor Anne Legge of Legacy Bloodhounds; and
WHEREAS, K9 Ally earned her first certification from the Virginia Police Work Dog Association at just 11 months old and quickly became a valued member of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, answering more than 630 calls for service, including missing persons cases, break-ins, and public demonstrations; and
WHEREAS, after the mass shooting at the University of Virginia in November 2022, K9 Ally notably located trail-confirmed evidence, including a firearm; and
WHEREAS, K9 Ally assisted 31 jurisdictions during her tenure with the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, receiving countless commendations for her dedication, reliability, and extraordinary work ethic; and
WHEREAS, K9 Ally was an outstanding ambassador for the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, who loved participating in demonstrations, visiting public events, or spending time with young people at local schools; and
WHEREAS, K9 Ally was a member of the Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association, the American Bloodhound Club, and the Virginia Police Work Dog Association; and
WHEREAS, K9 Ally will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by the members of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office and the Sheridan family, with whom she lived while not on duty; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of K9 Ally, a beloved member of the Louisa County Sheriff's Office; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Sheridan family as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for K9 Ally's memory.
