WHEREAS, for 50 years, the Flower Gallery of Manassas has provided the finest floral arrangements and exceptional service to customers throughout Northern Virginia and beyond; and
WHEREAS, the Flower Gallery of Manassas traces its origins to 1976, when Doug Burroughs purchased a flower shop at Manaport Plaza in Sudley from his employer who was relocating to North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Doug Burroughs grew the Flower Gallery of Manassas to become a trusted family-owned business that has played an important role in community life; the shop has faithfully served generations of residents through life's most meaningful moments, including births, weddings, anniversaries, memorials, holidays, and civic events; and
WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Manassas, Doug Burroughs ultimately moved the Flower Gallery of Manassas to a larger space at the Bull Run Plaza shopping center; and
WHEREAS, the Flower Gallery of Manassas has long supported local youth and civic organizations by providing flowers and wreaths for fundraisers and community events year after year; Doug Burroughs further volunteers his time and talents through floral workshops, opening the workshop of his store to personally teach residents about creating and caring for flowers in their own homes; and
WHEREAS, in addition to supporting the local community, the Flower Gallery of Manassas has served customers across the nation and ranks among the top one percent of florists in the United States for sending and receiving orders; the shop has received multiple prestigious industry awards recognizing its performance, customer service, and professional dedication; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Flower Gallery of Manassas on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Doug Burroughs, owner of the Flower Gallery of Manassas, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the shop's legacy of contributions to the residents of Manassas and service to customers throughout the Commonwealth and the United States.
