WHEREAS, Robert B. Weir, a devoted husband and father, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Prince William County community, died on July 20, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Weir was a proud graduate of the University of Virginia and a longtime resident of Haymarket; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weir made a profound and lasting impact on the Haymarket community over his many years of service on the Haymarket Town Council and the Haymarket Planning Commission; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weir was elected to be the Gainesville District supervisor on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in a special election on February 21, 2023, and he devoted himself to the prosperity and well-being of Prince William County and its residents throughout his time on the board; and
WHEREAS, during his years of public service, Bob Weir earned the respect of his colleagues and constituents for his unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and promoting good governance and civic responsibility; and
WHEREAS, beyond his public service, Bob Weir gave generously of his time for the benefit of others by serving with a number of local advisory boards and community organizations; and
WHEREAS, a stickler for procedure, rules, land use, and balanced budgets that did not burden residential taxpayers, Bob Weir demonstrated a mastery of Robert's Rules of Order and the minutia of laws and ordinances while disdaining partisan politics getting in the way of good governance; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weir, who would wear caps stating, “Of course I'm right, I'm Bob” and “Bob Doing Bob Things” and while himself Haymarket's “local curmudgeon,” was unapologetically himself to the delight and chagrin of colleagues, friends, opponents, and anyone who either got in his way or on his good side; and
WHEREAS, Bob Weir will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife, Diane; his children, Sam, Michael, and Megan; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert B. Weir, a revered member of the Prince William County community whose integrity, dedication, and service will forever inspire all who knew him; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert B. Weir as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
