WHEREAS, the Varina High School football team captured the Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship in December 2025, completing a season that showcased excellence, resilience, and championship-level performance; and
WHEREAS, the Varina High School Blue Devils defeated Loudoun County High School by a score of 47–0 in the state championship game, seizing control from the opening kickoff and building a commanding 34–0 halftime lead; and
WHEREAS, the Varina Blue Devils' offense produced more than 6,000 total yards during the 2025 season, establishing itself as one of the most explosive and productive units in the Commonwealth and setting the tone for a dominant postseason run; and
WHEREAS, the Varina Blue Devils' defense delivered a historic performance in the state championship game by allowing only 57 total yards; throughout the season, it held opponents to an average of 6.8 points per game, reflecting disciplined execution, relentless effort, and pride in representing Varina High School; and
WHEREAS, head coach Marcus Lewis, a graduate of Varina High School, led the Varina Blue Devils to the program's second state championship and his second state title as head coach after the team's first championship in 2021, strengthening a legacy of excellence at his alma mater; and
WHEREAS, the Varina Blue Devils' championship season featured standout leadership and historic production from Kaleb Wyche, who completed 130 of 186 passes for 2,345 yards and 28 passing touchdowns, while also rushing 102 times for 1,078 yards and 17 rushing touchdowns, one of the best offensive performances in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Kaleb Wyche became the first quarterback in Varina High School history to throw for more than 2,000 yards and rush for more than 1,000 yards in a single season, and he earned All-Metro Player of the Year, All-State Offense Player of the Year, and All-Region Offensive Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, the Varina Blue Devils' championship run was anchored by a dominant defense led by Jaysean Richardson, a defensive tackle and University of Virginia commit, who twice earned All-Metro Defensive Player of the Year, All-State Defensive Player of the Year, and All-Region Defensive Player of the Year honors; and
WHEREAS, the Varina Blue Devils were further led by team captain Braylon Hood, a vocal leader at linebacker, whose leadership, communication, and physical play embodied the discipline and unity that defined the Blue Devils' championship season; and
WHEREAS, the successful season is a tribute to the skill and hard work of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the Varina High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Varina High School football team for winning the Virginia High School League Class 4 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Varina High School football team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
