WHEREAS, the Miller School of Albemarle baseball team won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championship on May 18, 2025, finishing their season with an impressive 34–6 record; and
WHEREAS, the Miller School of Albemarle Mavericks defeated the St. Paul VI Catholic High School Panthers of Chantilly by a score of 16–3, bringing home the program's fourth state championship in 14 years under head coach Billy Wagner and its first state championship since rising to Division I; and
WHEREAS, the Miller Mavericks jumped out to an early 6–0 lead and never relinquished their advantage, responding to the Paul VI Panthers' three runs with more runs in the fifth and sixth innings; and
WHEREAS, the Miller Mavericks sealed the victory in commanding fashion as Evan Hankins' walk-off grand slam put the team up by more than 10 runs, ending the game early in the sixth inning in accordance with league rules; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Miller Mavericks are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Miller School of Albemarle community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Miller School of Albemarle baseball team for winning the 2025 Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Billy Wagner, head coach of the Miller School of Albemarle baseball team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
