WHEREAS, Carol A. Bruce, an accomplished writing and communications professional, esteemed public servant, and beloved member of the Herndon community, died on July 9, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Carol Bruce held a bachelor's degree in English literature from American University and provided writing, editing, and publication management services as the owner of Carol Bruce Communications for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Carol Bruce served a total of 16 years on the Herndon Town Council, including from 1988 to 1994 and 1996 to 2006; she was also vice mayor from 2000 to 2004 and mayor from January to June 2002, when she made history as the first female mayor in Herndon's history; and
WHEREAS, Carol Bruce made an impact in Herndon as a longtime member and president of the Herndon Historical Society, founding member and co-chair of the Herndon homes tour committee, vice president of Friends of Runnymede Park, member and former vice president of the Council for the Arts of Herndon, and former member of the Herndon Festival's executive steering committee; and
WHEREAS, Carol Bruce will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by numerous family members, friends, and citizens of Herndon; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Carol A. Bruce, a treasured member of the Herndon community whose legacy of dedication and service will forever inspire all who knew her; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Carol A. Bruce as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
