WHEREAS, the Lightridge High School boys' soccer team secured its first-ever state title in 2025 by winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and
WHEREAS, Lightridge High School opened in 2020 and established its varsity soccer program in 2021; since that time, the Lightridge High School Lightning Bolts have developed into a local powerhouse and won district and regional titles on the way to the state tournament in 2025; and
WHEREAS, in the state final, the Lightridge Lightning Bolts defeated the Kellam High School Knights by a score of 3–1; and
WHEREAS, the Lightridge Lightning Bolts scored first, with junior Brayden Moyssiadis converting a penalty kick after Christian Tshiteya drew contact in the box in the seventh minute; and
WHEREAS, three minutes later, junior Chris Washington headed in a corner kick to score the game winner; and
WHEREAS, while the Kellam Knights scored once in the second half, the Lightridge Lightning Bolts continued to control the game, and Brayden Moyssiadis added another goal from a penalty kick in the 74th minute to secure the victory and finish the season with a 20–2–1 record; and
WHEREAS, the successful season is a testament to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership of coaches and staff, and the unwavering support of the entire Lightridge High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Lightridge High School boys' soccer team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 5 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David Cesnik, head coach of the Lightridge High School boys' soccer team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
