WHEREAS, Jimmy and Dottie Dillard of Fredericksburg have proudly volunteered together at Mary Washington Hospital for nearly three decades, demonstrating an incredible commitment to the health and wellness of their fellow community members; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy and Dottie Dillard's association with Mary Washington Hospital began nearly 70 years ago, when Jimmy, who was a competitive race car driver at the time, invited Dottie to one of his races as a first date; and
WHEREAS, during the race, Jimmy Dillard was injured in a crash and rushed to Mary Washington Hospital, accompanied by Dottie; the event proved to be the beginning of a lifelong love story, and the couple has been together ever since; and
WHEREAS, in the 1990s, Jimmy and Dottie Dillard returned to Mary Washington Hospital as volunteers who greet and escort patients to appointments; the couple, who are now both over 90 years old, has continued to volunteer every Wednesday, recording more than 13,000 hours of service; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy and Dottie Dillard's dedication to service is a reflection of their compassion, kindness, and generosity, and their work with the hospital has allowed them to stay active and engaged in the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Jimmy and Dottie Dillard for their thousands of hours of volunteer service at Mary Washington Hospital over the course of nearly three decades; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jimmy and Dottie Dillard as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their legacy of servant leadership and genuine care for their community.
