WHEREAS, Elijah Sarratt, a graduate of Colonial Forge High School in Stafford County and a wide receiver with the Indiana University football team, won the National Collegiate Athletic Association's College Football Playoff National Championship on January 19, 2026, at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida; and
WHEREAS, after excelling on the football team at Colonial Forge High School, Elijah Sarratt attended Saint Frances Academy and James Madison University before joining the Indiana University Hoosiers; and
WHEREAS, as a key offensive player and veteran leader on the Indiana Hoosiers' squad, Elijah Sarratt was integral to the team's perfect 16–0 season that culminated with decisive victories throughout the College Football Playoff, including the team's 27–21 win over the University of Miami Hurricanes in the title game; and
WHEREAS, Elijah Sarratt's feats on the gridiron and his contributions to Indiana University's first ever national championship in football will be celebrated in Bloomington, Indiana, and beyond for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, through hard work and determination, Elijah Sarratt helped the Indiana Hoosiers reach the pinnacle of college football, bringing great pride to the Colonial Forge High School community and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Elijah Sarratt for winning the National Collegiate Athletic Association's 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship with the Indiana University football team; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elijah Sarratt as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his achievements and best wishes for his continued success.
