WHEREAS, for the past 50 years, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department has greatly served the Montgomery County community by organizing various programs and activities and maintaining the county's public spaces; and
WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors allocated funding for the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department in the 1975–1976 fiscal year, and one of its first initiatives was the establishment of Mid County Park; and
WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department has expanded greatly over the years and today oversees 90 sports teams, 12 parks, a community pool, and more than 200 programs for residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department manages more than 225 acres of public parkland, hiking trails, athletic fields, and recreational facilities and promotes environmental stewardship through its Renew the New campaign and other initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department provides the community with fun and engaging experiences in safe and supportive environments, making an immeasurable impact on the quality of life in Montgomery County; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department have been made possible through the visionary leadership of its longtime director, Mitchell Haugh, as well as the dedication of its executive staff, seasonal staff, and hundreds of volunteers; and
WHEREAS, through its efforts to promote the health and well-being of the community, the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department has helped to make Montgomery County a wonderful place to live, work, and play; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to Montgomery County and the Commonwealth.
