WHEREAS, Dana Van Slyke, a respected educator and education administrator who most recently served as assistant principal of Herndon High School, retires in 2026 after 33 years of distinguished service with Fairfax County Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, Dana Van Slyke served as the choir teacher at Herndon High School for 28 years and has also supported the school as a department chair, choir director, and music director for many theater shows; and
WHEREAS, over her tenure at Herndon High School, Dana Van Slyke has worked tirelessly to foster her students' academic, social, and emotional well-being and to help her fellow educators excel in their classrooms and careers; and
WHEREAS, beyond her work with Herndon High School, Dana Van Slyke has guided and nurtured young artists and performers as the music director for productions at the Reston Community Players and the NextStop Theatre Company and as the choir director at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to her students and the Herndon High School community, Dana Van Slyke has embodied the ideals of the education profession, earning the praise and esteem of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Dana Van Slyke, assistant principal of Herndon High School, on the occasion of her retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dana Van Slyke as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her contributions to education in Fairfax County and the Commonwealth and best wishes for a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
