WHEREAS, the Blacksburg High School boys' golf team won the PGA Boys High School Golf National Invitational on July 22, 2025, at the historic Pinehurst Resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Blacksburg Bruins played rounds on Pinehurst No. 5, No. 6, and No. 8 courses over the three-day competition, posting a cumulative score of 851 strokes, which was 13 strokes under par and nine strokes better than the score of the two runner-up teams; and
WHEREAS, the Blacksburg Bruins established themselves as the frontrunners after a strong first day, which included senior Jake Albert setting a course record on Pinehurst No. 5 with a score that was 10-under par; and
WHEREAS, the Blacksburg Bruins sat atop the leaderboard by only one stroke after a middling second day, but then returned to form to close the contest with commanding victory; and
WHEREAS, the Blacksburg Bruins were playing in the PGA Boys High School Golf National Invitational for the first time since 2022, when the team finished eighth, and their victory this year marks the program's first national title; and
WHEREAS, in addition to Jake Albert, who finished in second place in the individual competition, the Blacksburg Bruins' championship roster included Pierce Campbell, Grayden Laird, Cameron Sharp, and Jack Skinner; and
WHEREAS, the Blacksburg Bruins' accomplishments are the result of the hard work and talents of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Blacksburg High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Blacksburg High School boys' golf team for winning the 2025 PGA Boys High School Golf National Invitational; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rick Mattox, coach of the Blacksburg High School boys' golf team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's achievements.
