WHEREAS, in June 2025, the Marion Senior High School boys' tennis team claimed its first-ever state title with a victory in the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and
WHEREAS, in their first state final appearance since 1987, the Marion Senior High School Scarlet Hurricanes defeated the Bruton High School Panthers in a five-hour, nine-match thriller; and
WHEREAS, Brady White, Xander Gates, Colton Branson, and Slate Parnell of the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes won four of the team's six singles matches, but the Bruton Panthers earned crucial victories in doubles play, bringing the overall score level to 4–4; and
WHEREAS, with the state crown on the line, Caden Burchett and Brady White closed out their doubles match 6–3 and 6–4 to take the win; and
WHEREAS, Marion Senior High School also made history by becoming only the third school to win both boys' and girls' Class 2 state championships in the same year; and
WHEREAS, the historic season was a tribute to the skill and determination of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of family members, friends, and the entire Marion Senior High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Marion Senior High School boys' tennis team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 2 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Marion Senior High School boys' tennis team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
