WHEREAS, for 100 years, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation has served the Commonwealth's law-enforcement professionals by promoting continued professional development and providing educational and networking opportunities to its members; and
WHEREAS, established in 1926, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation is the only statewide membership organization for executives, administrators, and managers from all duly-authorized law-enforcement and criminal justice agencies in the Commonwealth, whether local, state, federal, campus, airport, or private, and which currently serves more than 500 members; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its history, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation has increased the effectiveness and professionalism of all law-enforcement officers in the Commonwealth through training and education, mentorship, advocacy, research, policy recommendations, and agency accreditations; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation promotes the law-enforcement profession by offering and maintaining a career center to help law enforcement grow in their professional lives, offering police officer selection tests and promotional exams to agencies, and offering public safety executive search and promotional process assistance to agencies and localities to identify the best candidates to serve in leadership positions; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation have given back to their communities through volunteerism and donations to various local and national charities, but in particular, the Special Olympics of Virginia, for which more than $30 million has been raised over the last 40 years through the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run; and
WHEREAS, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation has supported generations of law-enforcement leaders in the Commonwealth and looks to continue doing so for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police & Foundation as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's contributions to the association management industry.
