WHEREAS, the West Potomac High School boys' lacrosse team of Alexandria secured the first state title in program history with a 9–8 victory in the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship in June 2025; and
WHEREAS, during the 2025 season, the West Potomac High School Wolverines defeated the defending state champions from Robinson High School in the Virginia High School League Region 6C championship, then reached a state semifinal for the first time in program history; and
WHEREAS, in the state final, the West Potomac Wolverines took an early 7–2 lead, but the Cosby High School Titans fought their way back to tie the game at 8–8 by the fourth quarter; and
WHEREAS, the West Potomac Wolverines rallied in the final moments of the game, with junior Sean Kovalsky scoring the game-winning goal with only 1.8 seconds of regulation time remaining; and
WHEREAS, the West Potomac Wolverines finished the season with an impressive 17–6 record, and their state title was the school's first in any sport since 1990; and
WHEREAS, the historic victory is a tribute to the skill and hard work of all the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of coaches and staff, and the passionate support of family members, friends, and the entire West Potomac High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the West Potomac High School boys' lacrosse team on winning the Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship in 2025; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John Stamos, head coach of the West Potomac High School boys' lacrosse team, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the team's athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
