WHEREAS, Malcolm Mitchell, a Super Bowl champion, author, and advocate, has inspired students across the Commonwealth to embrace reading through his Read with Malcolm program and has made an impact with his Share the Magic Foundation, which organizes in-school programs, reading rallies, virtual reading challenges, and student engagement initiatives; and
WHEREAS, students and communities in the Commonwealth have already benefited from Malcolm Mitchell's efforts through the Read with Malcolm program, including the students of Sedgefield and Newsome Park Elementary Schools in Newport News and elementary and high school students in Brunswick County, Greensville County, and Sussex County; and
WHEREAS, at Malcolm Mitchell's Read with Malcolm literacy rallies, students have received copies of his illustrated children's book,
The Magician's Hat
, and have also participated in activities designed to inspire literacy and family engagement; and
WHEREAS, Malcolm Mitchell's efforts, in collaboration with local school divisions and community partners, reinforce the Commonwealth's commitment to ensuring every child becomes a skilled and confident reader; and
WHEREAS, Malcolm Mitchell's endeavors underscore that literacy skills are essential to one's life, career, and civic engagement and that improving literacy across all age groups is both a moral imperative and a cornerstone of the Commonwealth's workforce and economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Malcolm Mitchell for promoting literacy in the Commonwealth through the Read with Malcolm program and the Share the Magic Foundation; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Malcolm Mitchell as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation and support for his contributions to education and literacy in the Commonwealth.
