Commending the Western Tidewater Free Clinic.

WHEREAS, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic has served communities in Tidewater since 2007, offering health services to meet the region's growing demand for quality medical services for those in need; and
WHEREAS, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic began as a true grassroots effort when members of the Suffolk Partnership for a Healthy Community and concerned citizens joined to form a steering committee to work toward their vision of building a healthy community with easy access to preventive health care and other necessary resources within a safe environment; and
WHEREAS, after years of planning, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic opened on June 21, 2007, offering a free clinic operating out of a small house on Godwin Boulevard in Suffolk; in 2009, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic relocated to its current location at 2019 Meade Parkway in Suffolk; and
WHEREAS, since its opening, the range of service of the Western Tidewater Free Clinic has expanded to cover an area of 2,200 square miles, including Suffolk, Franklin, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Surry, and Sussex; and
WHEREAS, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic has been recognized by the Virginia Association of Free and Charitable Clinics as one of the fastest growing free and charitable clinics in the region; and
WHEREAS, among the services provided to patients, the Western Tidewater Free Clinic's clinical staff and volunteers offer primary medical care, women's health services, dental and vision services, mental health care, case management, laboratory and diagnostic testing, prescription medications, and access to hospitals and specialists through clinical partnerships; and
WHEREAS, in meeting the region's demand for medical services, the staff and volunteers at the Western Tidewater Free Clinic have created a stronger, more caring, and healthier community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Western Tidewater Free Clinic be commended for its dedication to providing health services for those in need in the community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Western Tidewater Free Clinic as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the vital service it provides to the community.
