WHEREAS, the Windsor Ruritan Club in Windsor, one of the oldest and most respected civic organizations in the region, recently celebrated the 95th anniversary of its founding, marking nearly a century of dedication to improving the quality of life in Windsor and surrounding communities through volunteer service, fellowship, and charitable outreach; and
WHEREAS, one of the earliest chapters of Ruritan National, the Windsor Ruritan Club was organized in March 1930 with approximately 25 to 30 charter members representing farmers, business owners, and community leaders who came together with a shared goal of strengthening rural communities through cooperation and civic engagement; and
WHEREAS, members of the Windsor Ruritan Club were integral to the early development of Ruritan National, helping to create the organization's governing structure and establish the movement to promote “Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service”; and
WHEREAS, in 1950, the Windsor Ruritan Club partnered with the Town of Windsor to build the Windsor Community House as a gathering place for community residents; over the decades, the Windsor Community House has become a cornerstone of community life, providing a common space for meetings, social gatherings, civic programs, and celebrations; and
WHEREAS, the Windsor Ruritan Club is widely known for its charitable events that bring together the community to raise funds for local programs; proceeds from the club's annual Pig Pickin' Festival help to fund scholarships, youth programs, and other community services, and the club's regular dinners, fellowship meetings, and community celebrations serve to strengthen relationships among residents who come together to support local causes; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the Windsor Ruritan Club has provided college scholarships to local students, sponsored youth participation in Boys State and Girls State programs, supported scouting troops and youth organizations, and donated to school programs and educational initiatives; and
WHEREAS, the Windsor Ruritan Club provides support to local institutions and organizations, including the Windsor Volunteer Rescue Squad, youth organizations, civic groups, and community programs; and
WHEREAS, over the course of its long history, the Windsor Ruritan Club has embodied the ideals of community service and fellowship; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Windsor Ruritan Club hereby be commended for more than 95 years of serving the Windsor community as a respected civic organization in the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Windsor Ruritan Club as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the organization's longstanding dedication to the Windsor community.
