WHEREAS, the Franklin High School boys' basketball team won the Virginia High School League Region 1B championship on February 28, 2025, at Louisa County High School; and
WHEREAS, the Franklin High School Broncos defeated the Altavista High School Colonels by a score of 67–56 to win the regional championship, then won playoff games against Northumberland High School and Lancaster High School to earn their place in the state championship final for the second time in school history and the first time in 32 years; and
WHEREAS, after starting their season 2–8, the Franklin High School Broncos found their identity and won their last 11 of 13 games, finishing 17–13 overall, a remarkable turnaround that was a testament to the student-athletes' resilience, discipline, and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, throughout the season, the Franklin Broncos overpowered their competitors with strong fundamentals, a relentless defense, and a fast-paced offense, playing with an extraordinary degree of passion and pride, which energized and inspired their loyal fans; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Franklin Broncos are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Franklin High School community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Franklin High School boys' basketball team hereby be commended for winning the 2025 Virginia High School League Region 1B championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robby Cutchins, head coach of the Franklin High School boys' basketball team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for the program's continued success.
