Celebrating the life of Mildred Harlow Scott.
Agreed to by the Senate, March 13, 2026
WHEREAS, Mildred Harlow Scott, who touched countless lives through her passion for civic engagement and volunteer service, died on March 6, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Mildred Scott was best known for her skill as a baker and brought joy to many through her craft; over the course of her life, she auctioned 88 cakes, several of which sold for hundreds of dollars; and
WHEREAS, Mildred Scott was an exemplar of community leadership who worked diligently to uphold the democratic process as an election official and served as assistant treasurer for the Town of Vinton; and
WHEREAS, Mildred Scott was an active member of the Roanoke County Republican Committee, Central Republican Women, and Roanoke Valley Republican Women, and she catered several fundraising events for Republican candidates for office at the state and federal levels; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by her son, James, and her daughter, Catherine, Mildred Scott will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter, Cherie, and her family; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Mildred Harlow Scott, a highly admired servant leader in the Roanoke Valley; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mildred Harlow Scott as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for her memory.
