Celebrating the life of Clyde Thomas Clark, Sr.
Agreed to by the Senate, January 29, 2026
WHEREAS, Clyde Thomas Clark, Sr., a respected educator who made numerous contributions to the Lynchburg community, died on July 3, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Clark grew up in the Seminary Hill neighborhood of Lynchburg and graduated from the former Dunbar High School; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Clark continued his education at the former Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville and began his career as a teacher at Sandusky Middle School after graduating in 1966; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Clark subsequently earned a master's degree in counseling from what is now the University of Lynchburg, then transitioned to school administration and joined Lynchburg City Schools; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Clark served the students, faculty, and staff members of Lynchburg City Schools in various capacities for more than 30 years and ultimately retired as director of student services; and
WHEREAS, outside of his career, Clyde Clark was passionate about community service and volunteered his time and leadership to the Lynchburg Voters League, Central Virginia Community College Advisory Board, Horizon Behavioral Health, Boys and Girls Club of Lynchburg, Lynchburg Branch of the NAACP, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Clark enjoyed fellowship and worship with the congregation of First Baptist Church of South Lynchburg, where he held several leadership roles over the years; and
WHEREAS, predeceased by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Marjorie, Clyde Clark will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his sons, Clyde, Jr., and Dexter, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Clyde Thomas Clark, Sr., a highly admired member of the Lynchburg community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Clyde Thomas Clark, Sr., as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
