WHEREAS, for 44 years, Ronald H. Williams rendered exemplary service to the City of Suffolk, distinguishing himself as a dedicated public servant, respected financial steward, and community leader; and
WHEREAS, first elected treasurer in 1981 and assuming office in January 1982, Ronald Williams faithfully served the citizens of Suffolk for more than four decades, earning their trust through integrity, accountability, and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, throughout his tenure, Ronald Williams demonstrated exceptional fiscal leadership, overseeing the responsible collection, safeguarding, and management of public funds while ensuring transparency and efficiency in municipal financial operations; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Williams was an active leader in the Treasurers' Association of Virginia (TAV), serving in numerous capacities, including as president, and contributing to statewide efforts to improve best practices, training, and legislative advocacy for local treasurers; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession, TAV presented Ronald Williams with the Treasurer of the Year Award in 1997, the L. Gene Harding Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021, and multiple other commendations over the years acknowledging his leadership, mentorship, and enduring impact on public finance in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, beyond his official duties, Ronald Williams demonstrated a deep commitment to community service, participating in civic organizations, advisory boards, and faith-based initiatives that strengthen families, support youth development, and promote civic engagement within the City of Suffolk; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Williams' service extended to the Commonwealth through his appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Pooled Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust Fund, where he contributed his expertise to safeguarding the long-term financial health of local governments across the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Williams' career is marked not only by longevity, but by a legacy of mentorship, ethical leadership, and unwavering dedication to the public good, leaving an enduring example for future generations of public servants; and
WHEREAS, Ronald Williams' many years of service and his lasting contributions to both his community and his profession have earned him the respect and gratitude of citizens of Suffolk and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Ronald H. Williams hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement for his 44 years of distinguished and devoted service as treasurer of the City of Suffolk; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ronald H. Williams as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success, fulfillment, and good health in the years ahead.
