WHEREAS, Abbey Johnston, the deputy chief of operations with the Bedford County Fire and Rescue Department, received the Glenn A. Gaines Leadership Legacy Award from the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association in 2026; and
WHEREAS, the Glenn A. Gaines Leadership Legacy Award recognizes outstanding individuals, such as Abbey Johnston, for superior leadership and actions that have elevated the fire service profession within the Commonwealth through mentoring, teaching, and other contributions; and
WHEREAS, Abbey Johnston received this prestigious honor at the Annual Virginia Fire Rescue Conference; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Abbey Johnston of the Bedford County Fire and Rescue Department, winner of the 2026 Glenn A. Gaines Leadership Legacy Award, hereby be commended for her outstanding achievements in service to the community; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Abbey Johnston as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her contributions to public safety.
