Celebrating the life of Kevin L. Hughart.
Agreed to by the Senate, March 5, 2026
WHEREAS, Kevin L. Hughart, a distinguished law-enforcement officer who touched countless lives through his service with the Prince William County Police Department, died on July 24, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart grew up in Indiana and served the nation as a member of the United States Army for four years, rising to the rank of corporal in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, also known as “The Old Guard”; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart was hired by the Prince William County Police Department in December 1989 and served in numerous capacities over the years, including operations, criminal investigations, and the office of the chief; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart was first promoted to sergeant in 1998 and continued to rise through the ranks, serving as commander of the Eastern District before being promoted to the rank of major in January 2014; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart served on numerous specialty teams throughout his career, including the honor guard and the search and rescue team, and he worked diligently to guide and enhance the agency as a member of countless internal committees; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart retired from the Prince William County Police Department on May 1, 2025, after 36 years of service to the community; he served Prince William County and the Commonwealth with the utmost integrity and distinction, leaving a lasting impact on the community; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Hughart will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Robin; his sons, Ethan and Alec, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and fellow law-enforcement officers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of Kevin L. Hughart, a highly admired member of the Prince William County Police Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Kevin L. Hughart as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's respect for his memory.
