Commending the Radford University women's golf team.

WHEREAS, the Radford University women's golf team won the Big South Women's Golf Championship on April 16, 2025, at the Ocean Creek Golf Course in Fripp Island, South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, the Radford University Highlanders defeated the Charleston Southern University Buccaneers three matches to one in the tournament final to bring home the program's first Big South women's golf title; and
WHEREAS, the Radford Highlanders took an early lead in the contest after Grace Addison and Caroline Gilreath won their respective matches and clinched the victory when Shea Smith won her match by sinking an eight-foot putt on the 18th hole; and
WHEREAS, the Radford Highlanders' triumph was a remarkable finish for a team that was competing in the match play portion of the Big South Championship for the first time since the format was established in 2021; and
WHEREAS, the Radford Highlanders' win in the Big South tournament notably earned the program its first-ever appearance in a regional tournament of the National Collegiate Athletic Association; and
WHEREAS, with a roster that includes five sophomores and three juniors, the Radford Highlanders stand poised to continue its reign of dominance in the Big South Conference for years to come; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishments of the Radford Highlanders are the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Radford University community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Radford University women's golf team hereby be commended for winning the Big South Women's Golf Championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeff Beeler, coach of the Radford University women's golf team, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for the team's achievement and best wishes for its future success.
