WHEREAS, Michael Barakey, fire chief of the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, has promoted the health and well-being of children in Hampton Roads for more than 25 years as a neonatal and pediatric critical care paramedic and member of the transport team at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk; and
WHEREAS, through his service with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Michael Barakey provides advanced medical care and transport to assist critically ill and injured infants and children throughout the Hampton Roads region and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Michael Barakey has demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise and devotion to his patients as he delivers advanced life support and critical care monitoring during transport operations; and
WHEREAS, Michael Barakey's talent, dedication, and ability to coordinate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals have ensured continuity of care for Hampton Roads' most medically fragile patients; and
WHEREAS, as the fire chief of the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, Michael Barakey leads one of Hampton Roads' all-hazards public safety agencies, safeguarding lives, property, and the environment in Suffolk and beyond; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his efforts to bolster integrated emergency medical services systems and to improve patient care, Michael Barakey was awarded the R.C. Dailey Excellence in Emergency Medical Services Award by the Tidewater Emergency Medical Services Council in 2022; and
WHEREAS, with an unwavering commitment to providing exemplary pediatric critical care and emergency medical services, Michael Barakey has made a positive and lasting impact on the Hampton Roads community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Michael Barakey, an esteemed paramedic and fire chief of the Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, hereby be commended for his 25 years of service with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Michael Barakey as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for his contributions to public health and safety in Hampton Roads and the Commonwealth.
