AN ACT Relating to the Washington national primate research 1
center at the University of Washington; and adding a new section to 2
chapter 28B.20 RCW. 3
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:4
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 28B.20 5
RCW to read as follows: 6
The Washington national primate research center within the 7
University of Washington shall annually publish in a publicly 8
accessible place on its website the following: 9
(1) The number of nonhuman primates, listed by species, at the 10
Washington national primate center that, in the previous year were:11
(a) Used in research; 12
(b) Used in breeding; 13
(c) Born; 14
(d) Purchased or sold by the Washington national primate research 15
center; 16
(e) Housed in physical contact with other primates of the same 17
species as stable pairs or groups of compatible individuals, and the 18
number of nonhuman primates who were individually caged for each 19
species; 20

(f) Injured or died in a manner that resulted in an animal 1
welfare citation by the United States department of agriculture;2
(g) Killed or died as part of research, a test, or a study at the 3
Washington national primate research center; 4
(h) Injured or died due to causes not related to research at the 5
Washington national primate research center; and 6
(i) Either showing symptoms or were treated, or both, for 7
unintended illness or infection; 8
(2) Links to publicly accessible websites that include 9
descriptions of research using nonhuman primates; 10
(3) The total amount of money awarded to the Washington national 11
primate research center from each source during the previous fiscal 12
year; 13
(4) Any inspection reports of the United States department of 14
agriculture related to animal welfare at the Washington national 15
primate research center that include information about nonhuman 16
primate welfare during the previous year; 17
(5) Any conservation efforts the Washington national primate 18
research center supports to assist species recovery in the wild; and19
(6) Documentation of the accreditation of the Washington national 20
primate research center. 21
