WHEREAS, On February 8, 2025, the Boy Scouts of America will 1
celebrate 115 years of service to shaping the lives of young people 2
by providing a positive, values-driven environment for growth, 3
leadership, and community service; and 4
WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1910, Scouting has instilled in 5
over 130 million youth a strong sense of duty, citizenship, and 6
respect for others, empowering them to become active, responsible, 7
and ethical members of society; and 8
WHEREAS, Scouting's history provides a rich legacy of acts of 9
service in times of war, peace, and disaster to others, local 10
communities, and our nation; and 11
WHEREAS, Scouting's Eagle Scouts have gone on to key roles in 12
military service, government, aerospace and space exploration, 13
business, sports, entertainment, and elected office; contributing 14
greatly to our nation's success and prosperity; and15
WHEREAS, Scouting's commitment to character development, physical 16
fitness, environmental stewardship, and community involvement has 17
enriched countless lives throughout the state of Washington; and18
WHEREAS, Scouting facilitates programs annually in the state of 19
Washington to more than 20,000 youth members, encourages hundreds of 20
thousands of nights of outdoor camping, provides over half a million 21
hours of community service, and recognizes thousands of young people 22
with the highest rank of Scouting, Eagle Scout; and23

WHEREAS, As part of its evolution and continued dedication to 1
serving all youth across the nation, the Boy Scouts of America has 2
embraced a new name, "Scouting America," to reflect its broad vision 3
for the future of youth development; and 4
WHEREAS, Scouting America's mission remains steadfast in 5
inspiring, preparing, and empowering young people from all 6
backgrounds to become leaders of tomorrow through exciting, hands-on 7
experiences and lifelong friendships; and 8
WHEREAS, The state of Washington proudly acknowledges the ongoing 9
contributions of the Pacific Harbors, Chief Seattle, Blue Mountain, 10
Mount Baker, and Cascade Pacific Councils of Scouting America in our 11
communities, from promoting volunteerism to offering a wide range of 12
programs that teach values, develop practical skills, and foster 13
teamwork among young people of all ages; 14
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state House 15
of Representatives join in celebrating this significant milestone and 16
recognize the positive impact that Scouting America continues to make 17
on the lives of individuals, families, and communities across the 18
state of Washington. 19
