WHEREAS, The citizens of Washington state have reserved this day 1
to honor, appreciate, and remember our Navy personnel; and2
WHEREAS, The Washington state House of Representatives honor 3
military members in Washington, the United States, and across the 4
globe; and 5
WHEREAS, Washington is uniquely positioned to help address 6
challenges in the Pacific and Asia; and 7
WHEREAS, Washington has been a historically significant location 8
for Navy installations; and 9
WHEREAS, The state of Washington is the location of one naval 10
base, two naval stations, and a naval hospital; and11
WHEREAS, Washington state houses aircraft carriers, multiple 12
surface ships, numerous submarines, and hundreds of aircraft; and13
WHEREAS, The residents of Washington include tens of thousands of 14
Navy personnel; and 15
WHEREAS, Navy installations inject billions of dollars into local 16
economies; and 17
WHEREAS, Washington state Navy installations are recognized for 18
environmental stewardship successes and continue to actively assist 19
in partnership efforts statewide; and 20
WHEREAS, The Navy has worked to improve salmon recovery, support 21
southern resident orca recovery, increase orca food supply, conserve 22
energy and water, conduct and invest hundreds of millions of dollars 23

in marine species research, restore and protect critical habitats 1
from development, mitigate ocean acidification, and invest in 2
renewable energy; and 3
WHEREAS, Washington state naval installations consistently 4
receive awards for the quality of life they provide to service 5
members and family members; and 6
WHEREAS, Navy personnel and installations are woven into the 7
fabric of our communities; 8
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington state House 9
of Representatives hereby recognize the service and sacrifice of Navy 10
personnel, and celebrate the contributions of the Navy, its service 11
members, and their families here in Washington state.12
