WHEREAS, 112 years ago, Juliette Gordon Low organized the first 1
Girl Scout Troop in Savannah, Georgia. At a time when women were not 2
granted the right to vote in the United States, this gathering 3
empowered young women and instilled them with the strength to 4
accomplish anything; and 5
WHEREAS, Over 50 million youth in the United States were Girl 6
Scouts in their childhood; and 7
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Girl Scouts of 8
Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, and Girl Scouts of Oregon and 9
Southwest Washington councils are proud to provide a safe learning 10
environment for scouts of all backgrounds through the end of high 11
school; and 12
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts plays an indispensable role in engaging 13
girls in afterschool and out-of-school programming and experiences 14
that expand their world and allow them to tap into their inner 15
community builder, innovator, change maker, and leader; and16
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is most widely known for its cookies. Cookie 17
season instills Girl Scouts with an entrepreneurial spirit and allows 18
them to develop life skills. It also grants the opportunity to 19
develop soft skills and make connections on a personal level with 20
people from all backgrounds; and 21

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts has advanced its mission to "build girls of 1
courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better 2
place"; and 3
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts is about building community and 4
relationships that last a lifetime, and developing skills that allow 5
for success in adulthood in any field they choose; and6
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts plants the seeds of community and teaches 7
young women about working towards a common cause and greater good; 8
and 9
WHEREAS, At a time when civics education is missing from many 10
schools, Girl Scouts engages girls of all grade levels in civics 11
programming that deepens their understanding of democracy and 12
government, prepares them for a lifetime of civic engagement, and 13
motivates them to take action on issues that are important to them;14
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives 15
recognize the Girl Scouts for its services to the youth of the state 16
and the development of the next generation of leaders.17
