WHEREAS, The people of Washington State share a rich cultural 1
history and a strong bond with our global neighbors in Taiwan and the 2
more than 100,000 Taiwanese Americans from Taiwan living and working 3
in Washington State; and 4
WHEREAS, Taiwanese Americans living in Washington have profoundly 5
impacted our state and continue to further the democratic values that 6
define us as a beacon of opportunity and prosperity; and7
WHEREAS, Washingtonians recognize the generations of resilience, 8
sacrifice, and hope demonstrated by Taiwanese immigrants living in 9
Washington and their descendants in their innumerable contributions 10
to our communities; and 11
WHEREAS, The people of Washington State enjoy a more vibrant 12
heritage and economy from the bilateral cultivation of these deep 13
ties with the people of Taiwan; and 14
WHEREAS, In 2022, the total trade between Washington State and 15
Taiwan exceeded approximately $3,800,000,000 worth of products, 16
making Taiwan the 7th largest trading partner for the State, and both 17
sides are committed to strengthening bilateral economic ties; and18
WHEREAS, Taiwan is the 6th largest export destination for United 19
States agricultural goods, and has ranked among the top three 20
importers of Washington sweet cherries, potatoes, and beef; and21
WHEREAS, The people of Washington State value the investment of 22
Taiwanese companies in Washington State's workforce, helping to 23
HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2025-4632 , by Representatives Gregerson, Zahn, Thai,
Ryu, Duerr, and Santos

create more than 15,000 skilled labor jobs in industries ranging from 1
semiconductor technology, airlines, and harbor shipping to the 2
development and manufacture of high-quality fiber optic components 3
and video microscopes; and 4
WHEREAS, Washington State has resumed its office in Taiwan and 5
appointed a representative in November of 2023 to strengthen their 6
trade and investment relationship; 7
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Washington State House 8
of Representatives reiterate its support for a closer economic and 9
trade relationship between Washington State and the people of Taiwan 10
and recognize the importance of a strong and enduring relationship 11
between the people of Washington State and the people of Taiwan.12
