WHEREAS, Walla Walla Public Schools superintendent Dr. Wade Smith 1
has dedicated nine years of exceptional service to the district and 2
community; and 3
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith has demonstrated outstanding leadership in 4
developing two Strategic Plans, including the most recent: Vision 5
2030, which advances the district's goal of Developing Washington's 6
Most Sought-After Graduates; and 7
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Smith's leadership, Walla Walla Public Schools 8
achieved its highest on-time graduation rate in history at 94.5 9
percent, including a nearly 20 percent increase in the graduation 10
rate for Hispanic students; and 11
WHEREAS, Despite financial challenges faced by many school 12
districts, Walla Walla Public Schools has remained financially 13
stable, with Dr. Smith successfully focusing on building and 14
preserving its fiscal strength; and 15
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith championed bilingual proficiency and cultural 16
understanding within Walla Walla Public Schools, expanding its award-17
winning Dual Language program to include more classrooms, preparing 18
students for an increasingly globalized world; and19
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith played a key role in supporting the district's 20
Transition to Kindergarten program, ensuring more students enter 21
school better prepared for success; and 22

WHEREAS, Dr. Smith's leadership skills are respected and sought 1
after statewide and beyond through his involvement in the Gates 2
Education Roundtable, Washington Association of School Administrators 3
Board of Directors, National Association of School Superintendents, 4
and Schools Insurance Association of Washington Board; and5
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith has presented numerous times at state and 6
national educational conferences on topics such as school bonds and 7
levies, construction delivery models, educational finance, 8
educational leadership, campaign strategies, and district branding 9
and marketing; and 10
WHEREAS, In 2021, Dr. Smith was recognized by the Washington 11
Association of School Administrators with the Robert J. Handy Most 12
Effective Administrator Award for all large school districts in 13
Washington State for improving outcomes for students by closing the 14
graduation gap for Latino students; and 15
WHEREAS, Dr. Smith has served on several state committees, work 16
groups, and advisory roles advocating for improved school facilities, 17
educational funding, and student experiences; and 18
WHEREAS, Dr. Wade Smith's unwavering commitment to student 19
achievement, equity, fiscal responsibility, and community partnership 20
exemplifies his leadership in educational excellence;21
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives 22
honor and commend Superintendent Dr. Wade Smith for his dedicated 23
service and profound impact on Walla Walla Public Schools, its 24
students, and the broader community. 25
